Naseeruddin Shah (born July 20, 1949) is an Indian film and stage actor and director who is well-known in Indian parallel cinema. He has won numerous awards in his career, including three National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards and an acting award at Cannes. The Government of India has honoured him with the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan awards for his contributions to the field of cinema.

Early Life and Background
Naseeruddin Shah was born in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, on July 20, 1950. His father, Aley Mohammad Shah, was a lieutenant colonel in the Indian Army. His mother, Zahra Begum, was a homemaker. He has two brothers- Hashmi and Zameeruddin. Shah did his schooling from St. Anselm’s Ajmer and The Doon School, Dehradun. He graduated from Aligarh Muslim University in 1970.
